Ernest is a hop with clear “New World” characteristics producing a complex flavour with predominantly fruity notes, especially apricot, citrus and spice and a strong "American" aroma.
Named for its breeder, Prof. Ernest Salmon, this hop selected at Wye College in Kent as a seedling under code OZ97a in 1923. It was used in brewing trials conducted by the Institute of Brewing in 1959 but it was considered to be a poor substitute for the control variety, Fuggles at the time so was not developed further until the American style hop varities became popular a few years ago.
These UK grown top brewing industry quality leaf hops (also known as hop flowers and hop cones) have been vacuum packed in a heavy duty resealable pouch with a tamper proof seal to preserve their freshness and quality.
Alpha Acid Range 5 - 7%
